Weather Conditions During the Vintage
The winter of 2016–2017 was marked by severe water shortages. The first half of the season was cold, but it ended with very mild temperatures that encouraged early budbreak. Early spring remained mild, and growth picked up. On the nights of April 27 and 28, temperatures dropped as low as -6°C in some areas, causing significant frost damage. Following this episode, hot and dry conditions persisted until the end of spring, creating severe water stress. Beginning on June 25, heavy rains marked a shift in weather patterns. The summer was more stable, dry, and cool. Veraison occurred early and progressed rapidly. Rainfall in early September allowed the grape skins to reach full maturity.
