Weather Conditions During the Vintage
2020 was a vintage of contrasts. The winter was exceptionally rainy. Spring was warm and humid, almost tropical. Downy mildew thrived. Early flowering varied depending on the grape variety, terroir, and prevailing weather conditions. Then, just before summer, the rain stopped, giving way to dry, temperate weather that lasted until the onset of veraison. From that point on, heat—at times intense—dominated the growing season. The thunderstorms in mid-August were necessary and allowed the vines to continue their growth cycle until harvest. At times irregular flowering and extremely dry conditions resulted in rather low yields in most cases. Harvested early, the grapes were fully ripe and produce full-bodied wines.

Tasting
This 2020 Seuil de Mazeyres is inviting thanks to its clarity, which reveals beautiful, vivid red hues. The nose reveals depth, freshness, and crispness. Subtle aromas of black cherries and wild berries invite you to take a sip. The palate is characterized by a soft texture and a fairly smooth attack. In the background, a tighter tannic structure brings tension and structure. It has a lovely, sustained finish supported by a light, expertly balanced oakiness.
