Château Mazeyres 2017
Weather Conditions During the Vintage
The 2016–2017 winter saw a severe water shortage. The first half of the season was cold, but it ended with very mild temperatures that encouraged early budbreak. Early spring remained mild, and growth picked up. On the nights of April 27 and 28, temperatures dropped as low as -6°C in some areas, causing severe frost damage. Fifty-seven percent of the vineyards in the “ Château Mazeyres ” appellation were severely damaged by this sudden weather shift. Following this episode, hot and dry conditions persisted through the end of spring, resulting in severe water stress. Starting on June 25, heavy rains marked a shift in weather patterns. The summer was more stable, dry, and cool. Veraison occurred early and progressed rapidly. The rains in early September allowed the grape skins to reach full maturity.
